Assalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh Brothers and Sisters,
I come from a country where the practice of 'Katam Qur'an' is very common specially after a close one passsed away.
Description of 'katam of qur'an': gather the family and few poor people. Each one has a juz to read and an imaam willbe present and make some duahs and read 'fatiha' on the name of the person who passed away. Food is served. This practice is observed after the 3rd, 10th, 20th and 40th days after the person has passed away and after it is done once every year.

My question is why is it a bidah to practice such form of ibaadah? Insha Allah with your help I can help others.
Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
May ALLAH guide us all.
