Bismillaahi was salaatu was salaamu 'alaa rasoolillaah, wa ba'ad; assalaamu'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu Could one of the tullaab please answer the following question we have received from one of our brothers in the US. wa jazaakallaahu khairan Rayhaan (SalafiBookstore Slough) "As Salaam Alaikum I have a question I need answers to in order to refute the people of bida?ah and shirk in San Diego. Please try to find me an answer as soon as possible to that the people can be guided to the Haqq and not fall for the tricks of Shaiyateen. Question: The is a saying of Abu Huraira (R): ?I have memorized two kinds of knowledge from Rasulullah (S) . I have propagated one of them to you and if I propagated the second, then my pharynx (throat) would be cut (i.e. killed). [Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 1, Book 3, Number 121]. The people of Bida?ah here in San Diego are quoting this to say that there are two types of knowledge and apparent and a hidden. They say that this hidden knowledge is only known by the Sufi Shaikhs who amy do things against the apparent rules of Islam but it is from the hidden knowledge (Astaghfurullah). Since this is an authentic saying from Sahih Al-Bukhair there must be another meaning of this saying. This is in Sahih Al-Bukhair fo it must have been explained by Imaam Ibn Hajar in Fath-ul-Bari. Can you please let me know what Imaam Ibn Hajar said about this saying in Fath-ul-Bari and what the other scholars of the past may have said about this? JazzakAllah Khair wa Salaam Alaikum Your brother in Islam Uthman"

Wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. From the Saheeh of al-Bukhaaree (#120):
The meaning:
Ibn Hajr said:
He also said:
From Fat-hul Baaree (1/273-274), Daar al-Hadeeth. Since I am out of time now, I will give others a chance to add the three important footnotes. And Allaah knows best. Bismillah was salatu wa salam 'ala Rasulilah wa ba'd Assalamu 3alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
About your question that some people (eg. sufees) use this as a daleel for saying that there is a known and hidden knowledge, than ibn Hajr continues on and says in meaning that ibn al-muneer said mentioned that the Batiniyyah (a sect) used this hadeeth as proof for their falsehood to say that there is a hidden and known knowledge in the sharee'ah, and that the reason why Abu Huraira didn't mention that knowledge was from that the people of injustice will cut his head off if he mentioned their wrong-doings and deviations. This is a brief explanaiton form ibn hajr on the hadeeth , if someone can give a more detailed one it would better. (Relayed to me from my brother-in-law Rani ibn AbdulAziz Bashiti Barakallahu feek) Assalamu 3alaikum

Nobody wants to add the footnotes? OK... [1] Sending salaah and salaam upon the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) is a kind of du'aa', and du'aa' is tawqeefiyyah, ie. you may not do it however you like, you may only do it as has been legislated. Thus, abbreviating the salaah and the salaam by typing ( S ) or anything else is not permissible based on the statements of the scholars: http://www.bakkah.net/articles/(sallallaahu alayhi wasallam).htm So kindly convey this to the questioner, may Allaah reward you. [2] It has been said that he died in the year 57. Some said 58, others said 59, and others said 60. In fact the admin has implemented an automatic fix for those who type the letters " S A W S " that it gets changed into "sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam". Unfortunately, the URL above got messed up due to that. So if you are interested in the article about abbreviating the salaah and the salaam, then go to the bakkah.net main page and look at the links on the left of the page, you will find it there in shaa' Allaah.
