quote:
"Speak to the people every Jumu'ah once, and if you refuse then twice (a week), and at the most three times (a week), and do not cause the people to become fed up with this Qur'aan.  And do not let me find that you go to a group of people who are talking amongst each other and you begin relaying things to them and disrupt their talk and cause them to become fed up (with what you say).  Rather, listen (to them), and if they request you, then narrate to them while they are eager for it.  And take note of the act of rhyming in your supplications and stay away from it.  For verily I lived in the time of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) and his Companions, and they would not do except that (ie. shun the act of rhyming in their supplications)."

  As salamu alaikum

I'm trying to understand the Athar quoted above because it seems to me that many of the Prophets supplications rhymed! Can someone explain more?

He was referring to takalluf (going overboard, overburdening oneself) in as-saja' (rhyming), and Allaah knows best.  I was hoping to bring statements of the scholars in explanation of these great words when I have time, in shaa' Allaah.
