Shaikh Rabee bin Hadee al-Madkhalee's Advice to Students of Knowledge, from the highly beneficial book A Lighthouse of Knowledge From A Guardian of the Sunnah: Shaikh Rabee Ibn Haadee 'Umair al-Madkhalee

The following are notes [not verbatim] taken from the advice of Shaikh Rabee' (hafidhahullaah) to the students of knowledge (hafidhahumullah):

quote:
The responsibility in relation to himself, continuing his studies, referreing to Sharee'ah evidences, understanding the proofs.

quote:
Be sincere, carefully examine and guard intention, making intention only for Allaah, benefitting the people without making his goal wealth (this is the way of the hypocrites) or material gain. His goal should not be for his deeds to be seen by people or that news about him spreads. So he should seek the face of Allaah in bringing benefit to the worshippers.

quote:
He should strive in being upon clarity, baseerah. Allaah says (what means): Say (O Muhammad): "This is my way; I invite unto Allaah with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me with sure knowledge... (Yusuf, ayah 108)

Those for whom it is not permissible to be negligent in this are:
-------> Student of Knowledge
-------> Teacher
-------> Caller to Allaah
-------> Judge

quote:
Again sincerity to His Lord and loyalty to Allaah, loving for His sake.

quote:
Bringing rulings -------> Upon Baseerah
Educating people -------> Upon Baseerah
Calling to Allaah ----------> Upon Baseerah
Enjoining the good ----------> Upon Baseerah
(and) forbidding evil ----------> Upon Baseerah

quote:
The one not upon baseerah is not from the people of knowledge, nor does he benefit the people significantly.

quote:
His efforts should be abundant.

quote:
Responsibilities regarding the truth:
------> Convey the truth
------> Call to the truth
------> Explain the truth, and
------> Spread the truth

Do not neglect this (above) obligation. Allaah says (what means): And who is better in speech than one who calls the people to Allaah and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims." (Fussilat, ayah 33)

quote:
Do not conceal anything from the (authentic) knowledge you have learned.

quote:
Be diligent in explaining the truth and in refuting those who oppose the truth without being laxed, or withdrawing, or turning away from it, according to the limit of his capacity.

quote:
Excel in refuting opponents of the truth through writing, spoken statements and other ways (media, newspapers, television).

quote:
He should act during the proper time to bring victory to the truth.

quote:
Write, give khutbas, speak and put forth refutations of people of bid'ah, using what Allaah gave him of strength and ability.

quote:
Do not conceal knowledge. Allaah says (what means): Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allaah and cursed by the cursers. Except those who repent and do righteous deeds, and openly declare (the truth which they concealed). These, I will accept their repentance. And I am the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. (Al-Baqarah, ayat 159-160)

--------> Allaah has cursed those who conceal (knowledge, proofs, evidences). If he concealed, then he should make tawbah, publicly acknowledge the knowledge he concealed.

quote:
He should fear Allaah, and act upon what he learns.

quote:
He should always be calling himself to account.

quote:
His character should match his knowledge - wherever he is. Allaah said (what means) about His Messenger: And verily, you (O Muhammad) are on an exalted standard of character. (Al-Qalam, ayah 4)

quote:
Devoted to bringing understanding to his brothers.

quote:
Pattern yourself after the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam).

quote:
He should not just take care of himself; he should call and invite others. Allaah says (what means): Invite (mankind, O Muhammad) to the Way of your Lord (Islaam) with wisdom (revelation, Qur`an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided. (An-Nahl, ayah 125)

Allaah says (what means): For every nation We have ordained religious ceremonies which they must follow; so let them (pagans) not dispute with you on the matter, but invite them to your Lord. Verily! You (O Muhammad) indeed are on the (true) straight guidance (i.e. the true religion of Islaamic Monotheism). (Al-Hajj, ayah 67)

quote:
We should match the army of people of falsehood by using all halal means: media, etc...

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.

A Short Advice From Al-Allaamah Haafidh Al-Hakami[rahimahullaah]

Al-Allaamah Haafidh Al-Hakami (rahimahullaah) advised the student of knowledge

'And self-amazement, be warned against it.  Indeed, self-amazement shovels away the deeds of the amazed one in its violent torrent'

Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Bin Abdul Muhsin Al-Badr (hafidhahumallaah) commented on the above statement of Allaamah Haafidh Al-Hakami (rahimahullaah):

He likened Self-amazement to the violent torrent that destroys everything in front of it; thus when a person is afflicted with the disease of Self-Amazement, all his righteous deeds are shovelled away and nothing remains of it.  Al-Haafidh Al-Mundhiree reported in his book At-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb under the chapter Tarheeb Min Ad-Dawee Fil Ilmi Wal Qurıaan that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said that:

'A people will appear who will recite the Qur'an and say: 'who recites (better) than us? who knows more than us?; who has more understanding than us?;' Then the Prophet (sallal-laahu alayhi-wasallam) said to his companions, 'Is there any good from these people?' They said: 'Allaah and His Messenger know best' The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: 'these ones are from you, from this Ummah; and they are fuel for the fire'

[Imaam Al-Albaanee (rahimahullaah) Declared this hadeeth Hasan Li-Ghayrihee-Saheeh At-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb: Number: 135]

Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq then said:

When self-amazement afflicts the student of knowledge, it drags him towards pride, exalting himself above the people, raising himself above the slaves of Allaah and exaltedness in the earth.   And it has been reported in a hadeeth from the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) who said:  'the one who has an atomıs weight of pride in his heart will not enter Jannah'
