Topic: Muhammad in the Bible?

I'm not a Muslim, but I have Muslim friends that claim Muhammad is in the Bible. What is the evidence for this?

Thanks.

Biblical prophecies on the advent of Muhammad (peace be upon him)
by Allamah Taqiuddin al-Hilali

In John 4:15-16

"If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter that he may abide for you forever."

Muslim theologians have said that 'another Comforter' is Muhammad,  the Messenger  of Allah;  and  him  to  'abide forever' means  the perpetuity of his  laws and way of  life and the Book (Qur'an), which was revealed, to him.

In John 15:26-27

"But  when  the  Comforter  is  come,  whom  I  will  send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father,  he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness,  because  ye  have been with me from the beginning."

In John 16:5-8

"But now I go my way to Him that sent me and none of you asketh me 'whither goest thou?'  But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled you heart. Nevertheless  I  tell you  the  truth;  for  if I go not away,  the Comforter will  not  come  unto  you;  but  if  I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and approve righteousness and judgment.ı

In John 16:12-14

"I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. How be it when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of  himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and he shall show it unto you."

In John 16:16

ıA little while and ye shall not see me: and again a little while, ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.ı

Muslim theologians have stated that the person who is described by Jesus to come after him in the above verses does not comply with any other person but Muhammad (peace  be  upon  him) the Messenger of Allaah. This person whom Jesus prophesied will come after him is called in the Bible 'Paracletos' This word was deleted by later interpreters and translators and changed at times to 'Spirit of Truth', and at other times, to 'Comforter' and sometimes to 'Holy  Spirit'. The original word is Greek and its meaning is 'one whom people praise exceedingly.' The sense of word is applicable to the word 'Muhammad' (in Arabic).

  Imam Ibnul Qayyim said:

He (Ta'aalaa) said in the Torah:

"And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. (Deutoronomy 17-19)

This is a text no one can deny or reject. However, The Jews and Christians interpret it on four different ways:

1- That it is about the messiah (This is the Christian interpretation)

The Jews interpret it on 3 distinct ways:

2- That it is about an implied question, namely:

"Shall the lord, your God, arise a prophet amongst your folks?"

Which means that he will not do it.

3- That it is about the Israeli Prophet called Shamwil (Samuel) and that the glad tidings are concerning one of their brothers prophets.

4- That it is about a prophet which Allaah will send before the destruction of the world (End of the world). He will restore the Jewish Kingdom and raise it. They are still waiting for him (Even until today).

The Muslims of course interpret (The glad tidings) to be the Arabic prophet Muhammad (Salla Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and no one other than him. Because this is about a prophet from amongst Israeli's brothers and not the Israelis themselves. The Messiah was an israelite. If he (The Messiah) was the prophesied, then he (Allıh) would have said:

"A prophet from amongst your people, from yourselves"

For example Allaah (Ta'aalaa) said:

3:164. "Indeed Allıh conferred a great favour on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from among themselves,"

The israeli's brothers are namely Ismaa'il's descendants. It is illogical according to all languages to say that the israeli's brothers are Israelis themselves..."

"And he said in the Torah:

Genesis 16:7-12:

7- "And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

8- And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

9- And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

10- And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

11- And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

12- And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren."

This glad tiding explains how her son's hand will be over all other (Of the creatures) hands, and that his word will be the highest. Who is described with this attribute if not Muhammad bin 'Abdillıh (Salla Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)?

Furthermore, in Genesis 21 we read:

12- "And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

13- And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed."

This glad tiding is about a person from his offspring who will get a great nation. This is nobody else than Muhammad bin 'Abdillaah (Salla Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) who is a real descendant to Ismaa'eel and he (Muhammad) recieved a great nation..."

  Shaykh-ul-Islım Ibnul Qayyim about:

The Bible - Isaiah | verse 6-9

6 For thus has the Lord said to me:

Go, set a watchman,
Let him declare what he sees.
7: And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen,
A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels,
And he listened earnestly with great care.
8 Then he cried, A lion, my Lord!
I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime;
I have sat at my post every night.
9 And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!
Then he answered and said,

Babylon is fallen, is fallen!
And all the carved images of her gods
He has broken to the ground.

Ibnul Qayyim:
"Both we and the Christians believe that the horseman is the Messiah, while the rider on the camel is Muhammad (sallı Allıhu 'alayhimı wa sallam). He is more known to ride camels than what Messiah is known to ride on donkeys. And also, it was with Muhammad (sallı Allıhu 'alayhi wa sallam) the Babylon idols fell, not with the messiah. In Babylon have idols been worshiped since Ibraheem's time all the way until they fell with Muhammad (sallı Allıhu 'alayhi wa sallam).
