Bissmillah, Two questions that was posed to Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al-'Uthaymeen may Allah have mercy upon him. Question #246: A man missed one Rakah' (unit) of the Fajr prayer, does he complete the prayer silently or audibily? Answer: He has the choice to complete the prayer silently or audibly. However it is prefered that he finishes the prayer silently because there could be someone finishing their prayer correspondingly and he could disturb him if he was to recite audibly. Question #248: Some people add the word "Wa Ash- Shukr" (And thanks) after saying Rabbanaa wa lakal Hamd (Oh our Lord, and for you is the Praise). So what is your opinion on this your Eminence? Answer: There is no doubt that confinement with those rememberances that are mentioned (in the Authentic Sunnah) is best. Hence if a person rises up from the Rukoo' (bowing position) he should say: Rabbanaa wa lakal Hamd and not add Wa Ash-Shukr due to the absence of it being mentiond (in the Authentic Sunnah). And due to this reason the ways that are mentioned (for this) are four: 1- Rabbanaa wa lakal Hamd. 2- Rabbanaa lakal Hamd. 3- Allahumma rabbanaa wa lakal Hamd. 4- Allahumma rabbanaa lakal Hamd. So these are four ways to say this rememberance however not all at once. Rather say one this time and another at a different time. Example of that; in some prayers say: "Rabbanaa wa lakal Hamd" and in other prayers say: "Rabbanaa lakal Hamd" and others: "Allahumma rabbanaa lakal Hamd" and in some: "Allahumma rabbanaa wa lakal Hamd. Translator's note: On the authority of Rifaa'ah bin Raafi' may Allah be pleased with him said: One day we were praying behind the Prophet sallahu 'alayhi wasallam. When He sallahu 'alayhi wasallam raised his head from bowing, he sallahu 'alayhi wasallam said, "Sami`a l-lahu liman hamidah." A man behind him said, "Rabbana wa laka l-hamdu, hamdan kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi" (Oh our Lord! All the praises are for You, many good and blessed praises). When the Prophet sallahu 'alayhi wasallam completed the prayer, he asked, "Who has said these words?" The man replied, "I." Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu 'ala rasulullaah Amma ba'd Can anyone relay what the 'ulemma have said regarding those being led in the salat saying Rabbana wa laka l-hamd... to oneself or audibly? And the same with the taslim - should the taslim be said to oneself or audibly by those being led in salat? BaarakAllaahu fikum, wa jazakum Allaahu khairan. Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
